Automotive

Electric vehicles depend on high-performance thermal insulation between battery cells as a vital safety feature. These thermal-runaway barriers play a critical role in limiting heat transfer during battery fires, helping to prevent fire propagation throughout the battery pack.

Our proprietary solution, Thermal Blade®, is engineered to mitigate thermal runaway and has undergone years of rigorous testing in collaboration with leading automakers and battery manufacturers.

Oil & Gas, Industrials and Petrochemicals

Heavy industry, petrochemical producers, and the oil & gas sector rely on dependable thermal insulation for process pipework and storage tanks. Effective insulation is essential to ensure process stability, optimise plant performance, maintain workplace safety, and support long-term operational reliability.

JIOS AeroVa® has been in continuous use for many years in the production of flexible aerogel blankets, designed for both high-temperature and cryogenic environments. This application marked the first large-scale deployment of our technology, produced through a joint venture established in Korea in 2016.

Energy storage

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are increasingly used to store renewable energy in residential, commercial and industrial settings. Many manufacturers install high-temperature insulation between the battery cells as a key design element to meet safety codes and standards and prevent and contain fire spread.
Our Thermal Blade® is extensively tested by manufactures of storage systems, often as part of their solution to achieve compliance to key standards such as UL9540A.

Building and Construction

Modern building designs and evolving regulations are placing greater emphasis on energy efficiency as a cornerstone of sustainability. Advanced materials that offer superior thermal insulation—alongside improved soundproofing and fire resistance—are essential for meeting these ambitious performance targets.

Our JIOS AeroVa® particles can be integrated into conventional building materials to enhance their properties, as demonstrated by our patented approach to gypsum boards. We actively support manufacturers in incorporating our particles into their product development efforts, helping them elevate the performance and value of next-generation construction materials.

Apparel

Apparel and footwear manufacturers have successfully leveraged aerogels to enhance warmth while reducing weight. Notably, one of the earliest applications of aerogels was in the design of NASA spacesuits.
By integrating aerogels into fibres and foams, manufacturers can significantly boost the performance of products designed for extreme cold-weather conditions. Thanks to their exceptional thermal insulation and ultra-thin profiles, materials with aerogels also offer greater flexibility in design.

JIOS AeroVa® particles have been used by multiple manufacturers, enabling the launch of innovating new products for technical sportswear.

Innovators

Batteries are increasingly powering innovative technologies—from cargo drones and delivery robots to ships, trains, and construction machinery. As with electric vehicles and energy storage systems, these applications demand critical design features to prevent and contain battery fires.
Over the years, we have developed and rigorously tested our Thermal Blade® across a broad spectrum of non-automotive applications, always tailoring its dimensions to meet the specific size and performance requirements of each unique engineering challenge.
The Thermal Blade® is available in a wide range of configurations and is supported by our expert technical team at the JIOS Innovation Centre.
